How we verify every number

erpimplementationcost.com publishes three kinds of data: vendor list prices, implementation phase percentages, and industry benchmarks. Each row carries a verification status so you can see exactly how much is sourced and how much is triangulated. We do not present unverified data as verified.

Vendor list prices — three verification statuses

Live-verified. The vendor's own pricing page was fetched directly on the verifiedOn date shown next to the entry. Microsoft (D365 Business Central and Finance & Operations) and Odoo fall here — the only three of our eight vendors where this is possible.

Industry-reported. The vendor publishes pricing publicly but their pricing page blocks automated fetching (HTTP 403 / SPA / bot detection). SAP S/4HANA, NetSuite (Oracle), and Sage Intacct all fall here. The figure is triangulated from 2026-dated third-party aggregators that cite the vendor's partner price sheets — ERP Research, Top10ERP, Vendr, Protelo, CheckThat. We flag the row clearly.

Quote-only. The vendor does not publish per-user pricing publicly at all. Acumatica (which prices on resource consumption, not seats) and Workday (which routes every overview to Contact Sales) fall here. We do not invent a per-seat equivalent.

Phase cost percentages

Panorama's annual ERP report — the most-cited primary source for this market — publishes total project cost medians, duration, and overrun rates. It does not publish phase-by-phase splits. The per-phase percentages on this site are synthesised from multiple 2026-dated third-party aggregators (ERP Research, zconsulto, DualEntry) that cite Gartner and Software Path data; we flag this clearly per phase. Where Panorama itself has commentary that maps to a specific phase (cost-overrun causes, OCM focus), we cite Panorama directly.

Industry benchmarks

Three primary sources, all retrieved as free public PDFs and verified on 2026-06-02:
  • Panorama 2026 Annual ERP Report — 170 respondents, published March 2026. Source of: median project duration (9 months), % over budget (>25%), % over schedule (~25%), top cost-overrun cause, top schedule-overrun cause.
  • Panorama 2025 Annual ERP Report — 172 respondents. Source of: $450K median project cost (this number was dropped from the 2026 edition's headline).
  • Panorama 2025 Clash of the Titans — vendor cost ranking. Source of: Microsoft $5.4M / Oracle $2.6M / SAP $2.5M / Infor $1.8M median project cost by vendor cohort.
Plus, with caveats: Forrester TEI for Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP (vendor-commissioned, flagged on every page where cited) and Software Path's 2022 per-user benchmark study (1,338 projects, now four years old).

What we explicitly do NOT cite

Two widely-propagated figures in the 2026 aggregator ecosystem do not appear in the actual Panorama 2025 or 2026 PDFs:
  • The "38% / 35% / 34% cost-overrun cause split" attributed to Panorama 2025 by several blog aggregators.
  • The "Godlan 68% / 73% failure rate" series attributed to Panorama 2025 by Godlan-source aggregators.
We retrieved both PDFs in full and these specific numbers are not in either. If you see them cited anywhere, ask for the page reference. We will not propagate them on this site.

Re-verification cadence

Every numeric row is re-checked at least quarterly. The verifiedOn date next to each entry is the most recent re-check. Material vendor repricing events (covered in trade press) trigger off-cycle updates within seven days. Pre-deploy CI gate refuses to deploy any data older than 90 days — built into the publication pipeline.

Pre-deploy gate

Every site in this portfolio runs through pipeline/verify-data-freshness.mjs before deploy. It scans each TypeScript data file in lib/, finds every row with a verifiedOn or lastVerified date, and blocks the deploy if any row is missing or older than 90 days. The point: the methodology claims on this page can never silently fall behind the data. If something is unverified, the deploy doesn't happen.
